These "militia" dudes were just dumbasses who brought weapons into a violent left-wing protest, basically hoping that they can take on a self-appointed law enforcement role.
I don't support vigilante action like this, but the media paints these people as "terrorists" and "white supremacists", when in reality it's just gun nuts feeling they're going to do the job which police have been told not to do. But it sounds a lot better to push the story that "heavily armed right wing militia members" were arrested, rather than telling it like it really is.
That teenager Kyle Rittenhouse was pretty much the same story.
While I think these guys are stupid, and while I don't object to this arrest, they're far less reprehensible than the ones who are actually there to hurt people and destroy things in the name of "protest".
Also, if given the choice of holding up a pro-gun-control sign at a huge 2nd Amendment rally, and wearing a MAGA hat at an Antifa-infested protest, 100% I'm holding the gun control sign. In fact, I'd take doing the sign at 10 different gun rallies over one visit to Portland wearing a MAGA hat during Antifa activity.

By the way, this is an example of what happens if you remove the police from the equation.
People riot/loot/burn/assault, the police don't do anything to stop it (because they're instructed from above to stand down), and it gives rise to vigilantes who choose to show up and take on the police's role.
And then people die.
And then everyone wonders how it all went so wrong.
This was learned hundreds of years ago. Any society without an active law enforcement body in place will descend into chaos and violent warring factions.
I have always maintained that police standing down during riots/looting/etc is a HUGE mistake, as it simply signals a period where crime will not be punished, and people will exhibit their worst behavior. You should enforce the law the same way every day, regardless of circumstances. If you'd arrest someone for burning a building or looting a store during normal times, you should also arrest them during periods of social unrest. Lawlessness always breeds more lawlessness.
The left still hasn't learned this. They think that you need to let people riot/loot/destroy/assault, provided they're angry enough, and provided you agree with the reason they're angry. They treat it like the rioters are little children who need to scream and get their anger out, rather than treating adults like adults, and knowing that adults are much more likely to behave badly when they see others around them doing it with zero consequence.
