Direction of the forum -- how should I handle free speech in the 2020s?

Imagine the soul searching it must be taking to spend this long on the idea of disallowing gratuitous bigoted speech. Not borderline shit, not bigoted speech in general, but "gratuitous bigoted speech", by druff's own description.

I'm sure there's a downside to this somewhere in your mind, but its pretty hard to fathom what it might be. The forum has voted, so far, at a more than 2:1 ratio that at least some action should be taken, but on the other side of the coin, what if people want to yell terrible things at everyone all the time? What about those people? I can see why this is so difficult...

Crowe, to be fair to Druff he may have a good idea of what he is going to do. He had the long radio show well into Sunday morning, this whole issue, other bullshit in other threads and whatever he may be dealing with personally. So I think it’s premature to speculate he is spending the time soul searching. He may very well know what he intends to do and just wants to have the i’s dotted and t’s crossed. If he announces it and then doesn’t have the time to implement things for a bit people are just going to be on his ass.

If I can't lightly mock druff on what I consider to be easy moral/ethical decisions, then why am I even here anymore? Also, just so you know, this isn't really a new issue that just popped up a few days ago. Druff has likely thought about this more than all of us combined, over the course of years.

There's plenty of sanitized snowflake space on the internet for those who want that. When Karen Nathan said she found certain posts offensive I told her then this isn't the place for her. People let loose here which is part of why I like it. I probably haven't posted anything that would be removed other than sick porn gifs but I've enjoyed reading what others have written.

The problem isn't the bigoted stuff. The problem is shitposting and constant flaming. It just so happens that shitposters tend to be more likely bigoted as well. I came back a few months ago and slowly realized realized that the most popular threads here were nearly unreadable because of the same 3-4 posters flooding the thread with crap that takes zero effort. I'm not sure if i just notice it more because i was away for so long. Many of them fall into the category of trump supporters or extreme left. They often seem to be attention seeking and just post total crap which has little value. But we do have posters on each side that can actually have a decent debate. Problem is they are completely drowned out and don;t see why anyone would bother trying to be part of such threads. The coronavirus thread has started to turn into this as well now. They've been allowed to ruin the forum and honestly I don't know what you do given how long its been going on for.

Won't bother naming who those posters are but pretty sure druff can pinpoint 90% of them and it only takes about as much effort as they out into their posts (not the quantity).

Most of the “guests” are probably various Russian bots checking the forum for content to farm for ideas on how to use racist shitposting to disrupt and discourage meaningful discourse by members here on the direction the country should take in this era of Trumpism. And they seem to have done a pretty good job so far in moving at least prominent member of this community to staunchly support Trump’s re-election despite him previously labelling Trump as “an emotionally-unbalanced, shoot-from-the-hip authoritarian who lacks the intellectual curiosity to even want to learn the complexities that come with running a major nation like the US.”
