In addition to the $500, Hut also apparently paid for your hotel room. You thought it was comped, but apparently he just subtracted from the amount the guy owed him.

Now that you are making good money, you should also ship Hut back any out-of-pocket expenses he incurred from helping you in March 2016. I know he isn't asking for it, but that's the right thing to do.
