I admit im not much up on these games but I really want to get into them.

I have my friends and nephews bugging me off and on to get a system to play them. They sometimes play the Battlefield series and others play COD

now I have my son getting a little older and even he is starting to ask me questions about it from videos he watches. This kid absorbs this info like a frickin sponge. He is only 6 and has been into Minecraft, but now it seems like he is switching gears and wanting to get into some more advanced stuff...dang that kid is so smart!

Video games should be a small percentage of a kid's early years as far as recreation goes. Not so much bonding looking at a screen vs. playing catch in the backyard. Same goes for internet time when the family could be doing something together like tying up a gimp up in the basement

Your kids will be exposed to everything electronic and more regardless so don't let their thumbs become their largest appendage. If you've got a nerd, they'll have plenty of time to live in that world when they realize you're a fossil.

I already have a strict policy in the household when it comes to electronics. Overall, he actually doesn't spend tons and tons of time on video games, and we make sure he doesn't. When we do play, alot of the time, we play Mariokart 8. When we first got the game, I was relaxing my character a bit so he would have a chance to win.

It's true. Your kids will likely clean your clock unless your a dedicated gamer. That's another reason to get them outside so you can dominate them for the few years available. Coding may be the new literacy but let's not get carried away. Exposing your kid to programming at an early age is no more a guarantee of greatness than exposing your kid to algebra or the violin.

So my kid takes a computer class in 10th grade and tells me about it. I ask what language they were teaching and she said 'Word and Excel'. I was pissed.

I mean when I was in Jr High I took an exploratory class where they were teaching basic and I was way out in front of that. In High School it was the very first year they taught the computer class and it was on trash 80's and I got pulled into the office because I was showing up the teacher who was a shit-for-brains. But at least they were teaching coding.
