Somehow in my head I confused Bobby Sherman with Bobby Darin. The latter died 52 years ago.

Darin's best known hit was "Dream Lover", which was a pretty good song in the genre. Sherman's songs never matched this level of success, but he lived an additional 52 years past Darin, so he wins.

What’s funny about Darin being characterized as a Sinatra lite is that Sinatra’s cover of Mack the Knife is outright cringe in comparison.

Bobby Sherman was a David Cassidy lite. Sherman even appeared on Cassidy’s Partridge Family TV show. Both were TV sitcom teeny bopper heart throbs who cashed in on some pop tunes.

Okay, you're correct on this. I just shot off regarding "Dream Lover"" being his best known hit, but yes, "Beyond the Sea" and "Mack the Knife" charted better, and also endured better over time.
