Somehow in my head I confused Bobby Sherman with Bobby Darin. The latter died 52 years ago.
Darin's best known hit was "Dream Lover", which was a pretty good song in the genre. Sherman's songs never matched this level of success, but he lived an additional 52 years past Darin, so he wins.
I like Beyond the Sea. Bobby Darin was good enough to be thread worthy. I mean they referenced him in goodfellas and casino I think. A Sinatra lite.
BCR’s “Beyond the Sea” together with “Mack the Knife” made Bobby Darin a star. Both objectively charted better than “Dream Lover”
What’s funny about Darin being characterized as a Sinatra lite is that Sinatra’s cover of Mack the Knife is outright cringe in comparison.
Bobby Sherman was a David Cassidy lite. Sherman even appeared on Cassidy’s Partridge Family TV show. Both were TV sitcom teeny bopper heart throbs who cashed in on some pop tunes.

I don’t think we can relate to how big Sherman and David Cassidy were. The whole 3 channel teeny bopper heart throb phenomenon has no analog in the 80’s or beyond. We really cannot fathom what that was all about.
