I think Matt is cooked, but he is the only one. Trump will simply appoint Kash Patel. I think you are missing a huge piece here. Most of these cabinet appointments will have no real power. They are simply going to be talking heads on TV to deliver the message from the White House. Trump just appointed his lead counsel from his trial, a former SDNY guy as the deputy AG. He will be running the department. Tulsi, Pete, etc.. will simply be mouthpieces for Trump and the Administration because they are loyal and good on TV. Trump said his biggest regret in 2016 was Jeff Sessions, obviously. He was right because when Sessions recused himself it led to a two year fake investigation of the Russian Hoax. His second biggest regret was James Mattis. Trump wanted to make changes and Mattis refused.
The only cabinet member with real power with be RFK, only because Trump does not give a shit about HHS. Anything related to Defense, Treasury, State Department or Deep State, will be run by the White House. Keep in mind, this is not an abuse of power, this is what the voters said they wanted. A vast majority of people are sick of this woke DEI bullshit, and when Pete starts firing woke generals who promote people based on race and gender and orientation, most people will applaud it. Pete is 100% right, if a general's focus has changed from being lethal to being diverse its time to go into retirement. I am not sure why people are shocked by this, he said all along he was going to surround the WH with people that are loyal. He is never going to hire someone like Rex Tillerson again, who 3 months into his State Department gig he called Trump an idiot, those days are over.
you are grossly oversimplifying this. cabinet officials head enormous agencies and from there edicts go out which given the size and scope of the federal government has tremendous influence - Mayorkas for example has incredible power and wields it mercilessly to do his master's bidding. he is not alone. look what treasury has done with our $$$. Defense and our funding of other wars. it goes on and on. trump only has so much attention span.
Mayorkas took his border orders from the WH. You are also looking at it from the way things have been done for the last 50 years. This is not business as usual. The policy for the State Department will come from the WH, and Rubio will convey it to his staff to execute it. If they don't they are fired. I guess what Trump has said is the level of autonomy is over. There will be no Jim Mattis pushing back. There will be no Jeff Sessions recusing himself because "those are the rules". If you think Tulsi is going to make her own decisions besides what makeup she wears on TV, I don't know what to tell you. Trump is all about messaging, his staff will fill the departments that are loyal Trump and they will do the day to work. Bill Barr was asked in 2019 to appoint Kash Patel to a senior leadership role, he said "over my dead body". Those days are simply over. Don't believe me, ask Chris Wray on January 21st when he is fired, a Trump appointee. On January 21st Pete will start the process of firing woke generals, there is no way Mattis would ever have done that, that is the difference. The FBI will get the biggest housecleaning, probably by Steve Rogers when he is appointed.
Don't be surprised if Trump does not take Steve Bannon's advice, and ask Pete to order General Milley out of retirement for a day, so he can officially court-martial him.
Que up Bannon to 2:45. Things like this need to happen. When did these Generals think they run an agency that by statute is governed by civilians?
Why I like Matt...
I would love to see an AG appointed who will put an end to a lot of the corruption and selective prosecution we see at the DOJ.
There's no question that Trump was the victim of lawfare since he took office in 2017, and it's especially ramped up in the past 2 years.
There's no question that they were going out of their way to sweep the Hunter Biden stuff under the rug.
There's no question that other abuses were occurring, such as weaponizing the federal government to silence unhappy parents at school board meetings, with an attempt to brand this as a form of terrorism.
I just do not want Matt Gaetz as the guy doing this, for multiple reasons. Many Republican lawmakers agree with me.
If the pedo actually survives Senate scrutiny, there will be mass resignations at the DOJ, which he’ll fill with top notch Liberty University graduates. I’m quite confident that they won’t accomplish a thing, and blame “Obama Judges” for their incompetence. It’ll actually be pretty amusing.
I believe there will be an announcement that Gaetz steps aside and joins the WH as a special advisor, just my gut feeling. Regardless, the FBI as we know it will be dismantled and its remnants will be absorbed by the DOJ. It really was a creation of J Edgar Hoover anyway, its not like it was needed, it was more about Prohibition in the 20s, and rooting out bootleggers and it took a life of its own after that when FDR weaponized it. But the culture never left after Hoover died in the 70s, and its generally over been an organization rooting out people that really were never causing a national concern. Look how many investigations they botched dating back to 9-11 which was their biggest failure.
Whoever is in charge of the FBI, as an organization, it's finished. It will exist in some form on regional office levels, but as a stand along agency, it's gone. It was never needed to begin with. I have known a couple FBI agents, they were fucking lazy as shit, one guy even bragged about it. So long.
I'm hearing that approximately 30 GOP Senators are considering voting NO on his confirmation. The Dems just need 4 defectors to block this, so getting 4/30 should be a piece of cake.
Regardless, there is a real issue with selective prosecution and lawfare within the DOJ. We even have an example from poker.
During Obama's time in office, there was very strong evidence that Harry Reid took a $1 million bribe in order to change his position on legalizing online poker. The state of Utah (where this occurred) was begging the DOJ for help in investigating this. Eric Holder absolutely shut them down, and wouldn't explain why. He made it very clear that there would be zero help from the feds in this mater, end of story.
This wasn't even a one-time fuckup. Reid was notorious for decades for taking bribes.
This type of shit needs to stop. You have under-prosecution for some crimes, and overzealous prosecution for other matters, and it all depends upon who is being investigated. There's also the issue of monetary-related prosecution, for which the Southern District of NY is famous. The DOJ SDNY doesn't care how serious the crime -- only how much money or assets they can seize from prosecuting it. Ironically, had DOJ SDNY realized that 2/3 of the online poker sites were busto, they might not have gone after the whole matter in the first place. Well, maybe they would have because Pokerstars was still rich.
Anyway, this is the type of stuff I want to see changed.
