PFA Election Special Radio Show - November 5, 2024 at 6:40pm PST

I have decided to do another PFA Election Special, as the one we had in 2020 was well liked. That show was arranged and run by Brandon, but this time I will be running it.

I have not decided yet on a format. It will be one of the following:

1) Live audio show like usual
-or-
2) Video panel show on YouTube like last year, with audio also available
-or-
3) Video solo show on YouTube, where I do it myself and have various electoral maps or other news coverage up on YouTube

This show will mostly or entirely be about the election, and will only take on poker/gambling talk if we are in a dead spot and waiting for updates on results. I chose 6:15pm PST because it will be enough after polls close in the east coast to where results should be coming in.

I will try to be as unbiased as possible, though obviously I want Trump to win. I will discuss not only the results we're seeing, and what they mean, but my feelings about both candidates and their campaigns. This one will likely not be edited, and probably archived very quickly, though it might be boring to watch/listen to when you already know the full results.

It is possible we will not know the winner of the election by the end of the night, depending upon how close it is in the swing states.

This election is so difficult to predict that a large electoral college win on either side remains possible.

Feel free to state your preference as to which kind of show you'd like to see done. If you want a panel show, I'll have to round up co-hosts and see who wants to pahticipate. I predict the show will run until about midnight PST, but maybe longer if there's still interesting stuff coming in.

Please do not troll or shitpost in this thread.

Think it's a good idea, the show 4 years ago went well. I think the key is getting a panel of smart people with different points of view/opinions and have it more gambling focused. Would like to hear from different people what their bets on the election are and their thought process. That's going to be more interesting to your audience than hearing personal opinions that have already been hashed out a million times in more mainstream/non-gambling circles. I'm immediately suspicious of anybody who has a strong opinion on what will happen but didn't back up that opinion with any money. Either they don't really hold that opinion, or they're a huge nit. Either way I'm not interested in what they have to say. It's also a good election in that there's a wide range of possible outcomes. Not like an '08 or '12 election where you kinda already know what's going to happen. Election betting is so mainstream now that any gambler worth their weight has some money on the outcome. And the smart money is more spread around this time, as opposed to previous cycles where it was almost all on the same side.

I'd love to call in but Brett Richey invited me to be on the Market Mania election show, so I'll be preparing for that. Will definitely try to tune it for some of it though.

We didnt really have a script 4 years ago but everything ran through you/and Drexal (and Todd when he got there). We had a good ebb and flow and you guys would call on different members of the class.

I settled into the “news interruption” when stares were called on TV, or on X…. And gave live updates on odd shifts on my platforms. I enjoyed it.

I'll see if khalwat is interested. He would be a good counter-point to me because he's very anti-Trump. I'm not a MAGA guy by any means, but I definitely want to see Trump win. However, I will not let my personal biases interfere with my coverage. If I think Trump is looking bad in the results, I will say so, and I'm not going to go down silly cheating rabbit holes. I might discuss the various cheating allegations from 2020 and the ones already being mentioned for this election, but I definitely don't want that to dominate the show, and I am skeptical about a lot of those claims anyway. I do believe Biden legitimately won 2020, though I also believe Biden received a totally unfair assist from the media, the FBI, and the social media networks, regarding the Hunter Biden laptop matter being suppressed.

tradershky, who tends to go to bed very early, also might like to come on, and again he is anti-Trump.

Anyway, it would be nice to have diversity of thought on the show. I'm not looking for it to be a right wing echo chamber.

Show needs to start earlier btw. In 2020 we started at 3pm PST. In 2020 the AP had already called 25 states by 6pm PST, and the AP isn't exactly quick to call states. And that was in a close election. Granted they weren't calling swing states yet, but you have a lot of information and market movements by then.

Point taken. I will consider starting it earlier. I'm not really interested in the obvious dark red or dark blue states being called, but I guess there might be some interesting exit polling data that comes out.
