It seems from Drexel's detailed account, and Slim's ravings, that when Slim gave Drexel the $400 he was under the assumption Drexel was going to get him food AND book the 100-to-1 bet --which would make the "keep the change" more reasonable. Drexel apparently thought he meant get me the food (which is a diet of dip apparently) and see if you can book me the bet. Otherwise there isn't really a reason to give Drexel $140 too much, Slim probably thought he was giving him $40 too much. Seems like a case of two different interpretations. The fact that Drexel offered to give him the money back (from the get-go and throughout) but Slim refused makes me think Drexel's version of events is the more accurate.
Just my thought on the whole fiasco.
