Yeah, I've been pretty busy lately but I'll be back soon. I've been following the whole Micon thing and all I can say is wow. I feel your frustration in hearing Druff et al.'s tedious analysis of the legalities and justice/injustice of the debacle. That's not what we want to hear. We want hot takes like the one Drexel offered a couple of weeks ago on radio. I mean, these guys knew Micon fairly intimately so they can offer some incredible insight into what this guy might be going through.
And as you note, his current turmoil or lack thereof is going to be moderated by any kind of psychological issues he might have. The idea of a dissociative disorder is interesting but probably not quite right ("dissociative identity disorder" AKA: multiple personality disorder falls into that category).
I'm thinking probably a cluster B personality disorder. Borderline personality disorder has some dissociative characteristics to it but I don't think that describes him well. Keep in mind, I don't really know him - I can only piece together a psychological profile from years of listening to him on DonkDown and what others say/write about him. I've only met the guy for an hour at the poker table - coincidentally it was about a year before his exodus and the first thing he said to me after I introduced myself was "Have you ever tried Seals With Clubs?" Haha.
No, I'm definitely thinking narcissistic personality disorder. Now, of course poker players trade in narcissism. And I might even argue that any poker player worth his weight in salt needs a healthy dose of exaggerated sense of self-importance to succeed; but there's being narcissistic and then there's being a full blown narcissist that makes it a disorder (at least according to the DSM!).
Here are the DSM-5 criteria and you can just check each box for our favourite Antiguan bitcoin lord:

I mean, the grandiosity and attention-seeking are Micon hallmarks and, as I see it, characteristics that dominate his personality that have led to his current predicament. What did Drexel say on radio? "Micon always wanted to be big time. Well, now he's big time."
That's the scary thing, his actions and their consequences might actually reinforce his narcissistic personality so it becomes a vicious cycle. Scary stuff.

I am still not understanding the frustration he and Sanlmar feel regarding my analysis/discussion of the Micon situation. I've come at it from many angles, both from the standpoint of knowing him personally and from a general legal/general analysis standpoint. I don't know what I omitted.
I can tell you that I don't know all that much about his mindset during his Seals days because we already weren't friends by the time all of that started. Brandon stayed friends with him for about 6 extra months, so he saw a little of it, and likely has more insight from that standpoint.
But if you have any questions that you feel I haven't answered, go ahead and ask them.

Im going to guess that he CAN afford that attorney, and may have already put down a retainer a long time ago, by cashing in some btc. Im guessing his wife wouldnt agree to all of this unless he said, "Babe...I have 500K put away that I cashed out. We can survive on that", as opposed to him having nothing and the wife going along with all of this.
I think that terms like 'poor' and 'afford' lose a great deal of subjective significance if you have a wife and young child and are facing up to 10 years in jail.

This of course is speculation, but I would be comfortable stating it is educated speculation. I don't believe Micon is as broke as many may think. He may be cash broke to a certain extent but I would imagine he still has at least several hundred thousand dollars if not more of btc. I believe he would rather accept charity from the btc community among others than deplete his funds. I suspect that if he doesn't get a deal that is favorable or chooses to not ever return he doesn't want to touch that nest egg.
As I mentioned, the 100k he is trying to raise on the gofundme page is peanuts. Steve's family had to pay 50k as just a retainer for charges miniscule compared to what Micon is facing. I could see this costing him 250k EASY just to negotiate a plea. 1 million + if he fights it at trial. He has money, he just was hoping to use the btc "martyr" title to free roll.
My reasoning...
He owed a mutual acquaintance of Druff's and mine a ton of money before btc blew up. He paid off that debt.
Micon used to be very good friends (and Martha as well) with the Jetts. Karina and Chip. They would go out to eat. The Micons were frequent guests in the Jett's home etc. Right around the same time Micon and I had our huge public blow out, Micon and Karina had one as well. To be honest I don't remember what caused their friendship to end. I remember when Karina was hosting a HORSE tourney at one of the local casino's, she would send out a mass text message to all the usual players reminding them, telling them of special offers (i.e first 10 registered get a free buffet etc) and Micon texted her like 50 times stating 'FUCK OFF AND TAKE ME OFF YOUR GOD DAMN TEXTING LIST" or something to that effect. Ironically, my very very close friend Jeanne is now basically bestfriends with Karina, as they run around town having meals, playing cards and going on trips.
This was told to me by KARINA . Last year at the world series Micon sits down in a 50-100 Stud Game that Karina was already in. They ended up getting into a large argument at the table. Micon started the dialogue by trash talking to her in someway (I don't recall the exact comments but I could ask Karina), she ended up calling the floor and Micon ended up leaving the game. But what was REALLY INTERESTING was that she told me had around 100k in chips on the table in a 50-100 LIMIT GAME!!! It was obvious he was showing off so others could see he had money They're is no reason to EVER have that kind of money out in a LIMIT game. It doesn't intimidate others like it may in NL or PL game. I remember back in 2002-2003 when I would play 1-2 NL at the Golden Nugget and Binions right after the Moneymaker and this guy who was known as "The Duke of Freemont" and he would literally sit with well over 10k, sometimes as much as 25k in the game! Back then, (not sure how it is now) the games at both those rooms were like a $40 min buy in and no max. AND TO MAKE IT EVEN FUNNIER HE WAS A TOTAL NIT. He would fold 95%+ of his hands and when he played a hand it was like raise to $7, call, call, call, Duke makes it $850 to go! I truly can't recall ever seeing him showdown a hand.
This posturing eventually backfired as more and more people knew of him and the kind of money he was carrying. He eventually got beat the fuck down and almost died.

I live in Summerlin Nevada. Summerlin is about 20 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip. The closest casino near me is the Red Rock. It's a gorgeous casino. To this date the most expensive locals casino ever built. It puts to shame many strip properties such as Excalibur, Luxor, Tropicana, and Monte Carlo just to name a few. Its the place I go to bet and watch a game, grab a late night meal, see a movie etc. Its also now home to The Iceman (I think the only croom he can still play at). It was also the casino Micon would constantly frequent for his non poker related gambling.
I saw him several times over the years there. Mainly playing blackjack. He would always be sitting at a $10 or $25 min table. He would always have $400-$500 in front of him. I never saw him wager more than $75-100$ a hand at most and sometimes as small as $10-15. A lot of these sessions in which I saw him were at the height or semi height of btc, so that was naturally what made be curious to see what he was wagering.
I have a close friend who plays weekly in the 40-80 or 60-120 mix game at the Bellagio. He knows about my prior relationship with Micon. He at one time had a huge falling out with Micon when he was the head of marketing for a huge online poker site. My friend has played many many sessions (hundred of hours) with Micon in the mix. He tells me Micon is a lifetime loser in the game. Micon plays too spazzy and loose. But he also tells me that always has several "flags" on him, which he breaks when he plays the game.
Micon isn't as rich as some people assume (such as the Haley Hintze article) nor is he as poor as people want him to believe.
One of the biggest issues in his marriage was his wifes lack of knowledge and control of their finances. I GUARANTEE when they had a child she gave him an ultimatum that things needed to change if she was going to give him a child. I always remember Micon telling me that he didn't want to have a child until he had at least 250k in savings so he could be comfortable.
There really is no doubt in my mind that Martha had Micon selll a great deal of coin when it was at its height or slightly on the downfall. No doubt.
Whether that money is in a safety deposit box somewhere, a foreign bank, or a relative is holding it for them, we can only speculate.
Both Micon and Mrs Micon come from families with SIGNIFICANT MONEY. I know factually if they needed say 250k for representation, the money could be easily raised by both families and NO, this doesnt involve 2nd mortages or liquidating of assets.
He has money. For all his fuckups and idiotic decisions of the past, he knew at the very least the day he was raided and charges being filed was a possibility. He definitely left himself an out. But he of course as many before him is feigning poverty rather than risk going through his entire nest egg and all the assets he obtained since this story began.
When I have more time I will post about the beginning of Seals with Clubs. It was more like the last 8-10 months of our friendship that he became involved in the project. He professed to me OVER AND OVER how both seals and btc were going to be the GAME CHANGER. I didn't listen. It was only months before that he wanted me among others to help him finance a team to develop a Chinese poker app for apple and android. I heard about it from him for months. This was going to make use rich....until we found out several had already been developed and were out on the open market lol.
