He's 42 years old, so I don't know how much longer he had, anyway.
It's not an arm injury, he can still throw just fine. I'm guessing if he wants to come back he will, and the Yanks will definitely allow him the chance to try.
After a quick google search I see he's a free agent after this season. So even if the Yankees pass on him, and assuming again Rivera wants to play/needs a check, I'm sure just about any small market team would take a 1 mil guaranteed + heavy incentives risk on him. I bet if his rehab is perfect and his velocity doesnt drop, he could even get 3-4 mil guaranteed next year coming back from this.
You obviously dont know anything about pitching. All of your power, velocity, etc comes from the legs. This is his back "push" leg. This is a significant injury for a 25 year old RHP and MO is 42. I think he is done honestly.
What a wierd deal. If you watch the clip when he goes down it looks like he just tripped. Initially he appears to just be laying on the ground laughing at himself for tripping.
You obviously don't know anything about acl tears since the majority of them happen just like that, there's no gruesome youtube video that makes people squirm.
I also mentioned in my next post that "if he regains his velocity". Even if he does not regain it fully, he could still be a piece in a bullpen. He still knows how to pitch, and how to locate pitches. Moyer just had TJ surgery at 48 and is back in a rotation.
What did I even say about the nature of the ACL injury? I said he was laying there laughing, which he was.
Im not sure MO intended to pitch after this season anyways (look at his contract situation). I would place a $100 wager with you that he never pitches in the MLB ever again.

please tell me where he's laughing there. scroll down for video.
I didn't watch the video but I heard numerous times he was laughing. Maybe you guys watched a different video or a different angle, but from the way it seems to me, he is in agony. Makes you realize anything can happen at any time.
Of all the money e'er I had, I spent it in good company
An ACL injury is initially painful, but within minutes you can sometimes walk on it (so it's not out of the question he was laughing)... Unfortunately it feels like your knee is moving side to side with no way to stabalize it, sometimes you can't put any weight on it all, sometimes you can. It's HIGHLY unlikely he will want to put in a year of serious rehab to get back on the field at age 43, and yes, your leg is a big part of pitching, he probably won't be able to throw a "real" pitch for over 6-months. non-athletes have a much easier rehab period (not as intense) and don't neccasarily have to undergo reconstructive surgery, someone who wants to return to professional baseball would need not only need more surgery, but the rehab is intense.
Unless he is proven ready by Spring Training next year no team will take a flyer on him; I think he'll just opt to call it a career
I write things about poker at my Poker Blog and elsewhere on the Internets
He needs to stay off it and go to rehab. It's the only way he will ever play again.
That video was definitely from a different angle then the one I saw last night. I also read a few articles where it said he was laughing directly after and in the cart. From the video clip linked in this thread, it does not appear that he is laughing, but hurting.
Also LOL at the KC staff initially trying to put him in a freaking mower trailer but no one could figure out how to get it open. The Yankees continue to take BP and rain balls down on the best closer in the games history as they are summonsing a better cart.
