But nope. Just people saying "so sorry" and "better luck next time" and "I know how it is" type of bullshit. Nothing about how to fix the problem.

I don't follow that sports thread so I had no idea what Dimes was doing. I offered some help. But split recommended against it saying in so many words he's got a gambling problem. And telly agreed with her. I thought that was strange seeing as how he jumped me for saying Dime must not have been betting kelly.

So if I throw money at it am I just feeding a compulsive gambler? The thing about compulsive gamblers is no win is big enough for them. They'll just keep overbetting their bankroll until they are broke again. So I certainly don't want to be feeding a compulsive gambler.

Hard core professional gamblers call professional gamblers that go broke "bustouts." It's a highly derogatory term. Can't stand a fucking bustout! The reason bustouts are held in such contempt is because the pros know what they went through, all the sacrifices they made, all the discipline they practiced to keep from going broke. So anyone that busts out is seen as weak.

Kelly is perfect for the recreational gambler. It is liberating to bet an amount that doesn’t matter. You can think much more clearly.

When you make a living as a gambler the pressures are entirely different. Betting $20 on an event in a downswing isn’t an option. Food, travel, housing & hoes are a fixed expense. The bankroll gets tapped to make ends meet. Shit gets emotional too - survival has that effect on humans.

How and why he traveled is a question. Though sexy that’s an expensive overhead. I used to get great comps playing poker - which was a unique moment in history. I doubt sports wagering entitles you to even free water in 2025.

Busting out is a growth experience. You change your game choice. You learn something about your tolerance for risk. Literally everything in our lives is risk based unless you’re working 9-5. My kids are polar opposites with regards to risk. They have different perceptions of what they experienced and the world around them. They have to travel the path of their choosing. So does JeffDime.

I wrote about my bust out at least once in great detail. Changed me enormously. Scarred me emotionally. I did get a bail out.

So kelly betting is perfect for rec gamblers but not professionals? Where did you come up with that? Pros everywhere would be surprised to hear that, since they use and recommend kelly.

Bills and expenses are no excuse for over betting your bankroll. Continually overbetting a bankroll is a mathematical certainty to reach ruin. You can't do it. Repeat. You can't do it. Figure something else out but over betting the bankroll is suicide. Compulsives over bet their bankroll.

Go back to the early to mid 90's and I busted half a dozen times. Instead of quitting (I refused to quit. I was bound and determined to beat gambling) I went back to the day labor to make more buy-in money. I didnt borrow money. I worked for it. BTW, stacking boxes, digging ditches, moving furniture is great therapy for a loose calling poker player. You learn not to do it or you are stacking boxes.

Instead of crying like a bitch about busting out I analyzed the situation, figured out the causes, and took corrective action. Took me a half dozen times to get it fully corrected.

Here's one of the problems I corrected in the mid 90's when I made 20K in 4 months playing low limit poker (pretty much all they had back then) but it took only a $1200 losing streak to knock me out of action. What's wrong with that picture? No brainer. I was blowing money on stupid stuff. Blowing money on stupid stuff is one of the biggest mistakes a gambler can make. I plugged that leak.

Money is flat. It's made for stacking. Stack it high enough and you will never sweat a losing streak. That is, as long as you bet within the means of your bankroll.

Years ago I shared podcasts in which Mickey was the subject. There were a few podcasts I regularly enjoyed back then. I love the biographies of gamblers and bookmakers as a genre. Can’t go wrong. Always colorful.

Quite by accident Mickey turned up next in the queue one day. I enthusiastically shared that pod and other Crimm interviews here too. What stuck me as particularly odd was that Crimm never responded to my posts or interacted with me in any way about them. I was not beefing with him either. I have never been able to imagine an explanation. Puzzling. I just shrugged my shoulders and carried on without comment. Until now.

In my informal observation of humans I have gathered that as a rule successful people skew happier. Mickey doesn’t strike me as happy. Subsistence gambling is a hard hard path. I get it. He strikes me as a casualty of the game as much as JeffDime.
