Brandon Pfaadt, who has otherwise had a very disappointing season, went 9 innings today, allowed 1 hit, 1 walk, 0 runs, and struck out 7.

And the Diamondbacks lost by 4 runs.

Sounds like something the Dodgers would do.

Another masterful game by a Dodgers starter -- this time Snell against the Phillies for 7. 0 runs, 2 hits, 2 walks, 12 K.

Time to see if the bullpen blows the 3-0 lead. If they do, I expect riots in and around Dodger Stadium.

Vesia left the bullpen and was trotting across the outfield in the 7th. It took almost no convincing at all on Snell’s part to have Vesia called off.

Dodgers scared to death of their pen.

Lolz, Luzardo was still in during the 8th inning, and Joe Davis was saying how Luzardo had "settled in" and was getting everyone out despite giving up 3 early runs.

Within like 2 seconds, Ohtani smacked a home run to make it 4-0 (#51).

It's almost like Ohtani heard the boradcast.

Normally a 4th run to lead going in the 9th is inconsequential, but for the Dodgers nowadays that's huge.

Ohtani as closer is gonna be mega.

The savior that Mookie was at short.

I could be a fake Dodger fan for that similar to Druff’s fake democrats

Keep your chin up. Just 1.5 back of Boston, 2.5 back of Houston/Seattle. You only need to pass one.

    It's very possible.

BCR: We are so bad on offense I don’t even know if I want to make it. Just glad they didn’t quit and fold the tent.

    Game 1 Yamamoto
    Game 2 Snell

Ohtani comes out of bullpen game 1 and game 2. Ohtani has stated on his own recently that he’s thinking about the outfield. Of course this is his decision not Friedman’s. It appears he’s made it. Ohtani is about to take a run at GOAT by carrying the aging Dodgers and their fail roster on his back. This is going to be epic. Earth has not witnessed anything like this.

Pray you don’t need a game 3. If Ohtani didn’t pitch relief I guess he starts. Else you flip a coin with Glasnow & Sheehan

Which is to say you may not see Kershaw after Friday. He’s not starting and he sure isn’t coming out of the pen.

That Fraudman failed to approach the MLB before this point to seek to amend the Ohtani rules to include the bullpen contingency is so very Andrew Friedman.

You just spent $700m. Shohei is your most valuable asset and you gave this no thought. Playoffs just aren’t Fraudman’s strong suit.

Kershaw's entire point of playing in 2025 was to actually be part of a postseason where the Dodgers win it all.

Had he been healthy enough to pitch last postseason and done so with okayish results, he'd have hung it up last year and gone out on top.

The way it ended for him in 2024 felt unnatural and empty, so he gave it one more shot.

Kershaw came out of the bullpen multiple times in past postseasons. He very well might again. He just wants to be useful in some way. I agree they won't be using him for trash time, though.

Trust me, he already had this conversation with Friedman at the beginning of the season. This announcement was long planned, hence the Kershaw 3000 K bobblehead taking place the day after he makes his final regular season start. Do you think that's a coincidence?

If it were announced the Dodgers intended to use Kershaw out of the pen in meaningful spots LAD would riot. They are already booing the pen.

Besides why would you jeopardize the Kershaw legacy with another blowup. It would cement the post season narrative for generations.

Reality distortion sir on the part of you and Kershaw.

Is it true that the Asians are replacing the Latinos in Dodgers stadium? Phillies broadcasters had many fresh takes about the ravine. They obsessed about parking and the way parking transitioned into the park too. Fun

There is an increase in Asians, especially on the nights Yamamoto pitches, but the dominant race is still Hispanic.

Ben and I accidentally went on Mexican Heritage Night one time, and we were in the minority more than I had ever seen, even in the good seats which I buy.

The lousy seats tend to be filled with the gangbanger types, whereas the better-but-not-dugout seats (especially the area where I sit) are generally a mixture of middle and upper-middle class whites and Mexicans, now with some Asians as well. The dugout seats (which I don't like anyway because the foul fence) are almost all white people. Asians are very big on value and they don't like to sit there, either. I actually find I have a lot in common with Asians in that way, as I also generally have an obsession with value, which is different than just being cheap.

It is funny seeing the Asians (presumably the Japanese ones) pulling out their phone to record every Ohtani at bat.

Regarding Kershaw, it might be hard to justify squeezing him in as a starter in a short series.

One issue where the Dodgers have been great lately has been starting pitching. Not only has Yamamoto been very good all year (especially recently), but Glasnow and Snell have gotten it together, and Ohtani seems to have shaken the rust off, as well. Where does Kershaw fit in, if it's a short series?

You said they may not want to use him out of the bullpen, but I disagree. Kershaw has been decent this year when healthy, he's pitched out of the bullpen before during the postseason, and the team's real need is bullpen help. Could he blow up in a bullpen appearance? Yes. But remember what happened in 2023 when he started. The game was over in the first inning. It might be better for Kershaw to direct all of his energy into a good bullpen performance, and his lack of starting can be explained away as a combination of his age and the glut of good starters the team already has. If he does quality work out of the bullpen -- the one factor of the team scaring fans the most -- he will be a hero anyway.

Someone just dumped their front row loge tickets between home and 3B for $382 each.

They haven't sold yet. This is slightly out of the zone where you usually get the best deals (usually it's 6-24 hours before game time), but it's far better value than anything else. Worst seats in the house still going for $184.

I can't bring myself to spend $764 for two regular season tickets, plus hassle with the Friday traffic. But I'll keep checking just in case someone panic-sells for $200 each or something. Ben wasn't born yet when Kershaw started pitching. The game is less meaningful to him.

Kershaw has been a notoriously slow starter who “settles in”.

Well, 8th in a row for the Injuns.

Sawks won, Astros lost, so that puts the Injuns 1.5 behind both, 2.5 behind Seattle, and 3.5 behind the Yankees.

This is doable. You just need 1 to fall behind.
