I say drop “McCarren” and go with Las Vegas International. And NO to naming it to Henry Reid.
Side note- I remember the 1992 movie Honeymoon in Vegas where they referred to the “Las Vegas airfield” when the couple landed in Nevada. I’ll have to double check the video, but think that was what the female announcer said.

As a former Nevada resident, I found out something on my own- a large majority of Nevadans are just dumb and make lame emotional decisions. And if you offer up a common sense alternative, you then need to just "go back to California". This airport renaming decision is a perfect example, as a true internatio0n destination, it would have been better to use "Las Vegas International Airport" instead. But no, we always have to be different in Nevada and buck common sense.

It was this way in the 90's as a NV gov employee. Short story- The Nevada DMV decided to be an experimental test animal for a new computer program called Genesis. We told our supervisor that idea and horrible and a two years later, Genesis was a major expensive FAIL statewide. But they thought saving a few cents was worth it, instead,m it costs millions to repair. This is why the famous gray and blue vehicle plates were removed from all vehicles, the Genesis fuck up. Again, Nevada gov failed thinking.

Its being reported at a Facebook news outlet that someone unofficially changed the name back on a sign at the airport. Most likely AI or Photoshop, cant confirm.
Harry Reid wasn't all bad. He did something good for poker players over 40 years ago when he was Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission....
I'm sure you've seen those signs on the poker tables explaining how much would be raked out of the pots? And the drop boxes located under the tables with the slots on top of the tables where they sit the chips to be raked, and the levers that get pulled to drop the chips down to the drop box which can't be legally done until the hand is over. Everyone gets to see how many chips are sitting there to be dropped.
That was all the work of Harry Reid. A secret informant had appraised Harry of what was going on in the poker games in Las Vegas. Before Harry's new regulations there was nothing on the tables but the boxes in front of the dealers that held the chips.
As a hand progressed the dealer would pull a chip or chips out of the pot and into the box at every betting round. Of course this led to some serious issues about the amount being raked out of the pot. Those in the know called them "snatch games." The joke was you had to win the pot to breakeven. Cardroom managers rated their dealers on how much they could snatch out of a game.
I met an old guy in Laughlin in the late 90's. He lived in the hotel/casinos, played poker and bet horses every day. He was a good poker player and told me he learned handicapping the horses from the best in the business 50 years prior.
He also told me how he secretly informed Harry Reid about the snatch games in Vegas. It was in the mob days and he didn't want to be known by anyone but Reid. So they met at Reid's house. Harry did the right thing and cleaned up the poker games.
Another bit of wisdom the old guy left me with. He told me that of the hundreds of horse bettors he had known and observed for 50 years there were only half a dozen that if he owned the book he would refuse their action.

However, I'm surprised that you're pro Harry Reid. While he did a few good things for gamblers, there was always something in it for him. He was one of the most corrupt US Senators in modern history.
As one of his final acts of corruption, he took a $2 million bribe from Full Tilt in order to support legalization of online poker. This was easy to prove, and in fact the guy arranging it (telemarketing scammer Jeremy Johnson) had recorded his discussion of the matter with one of Reid's associates. This occurred in Utah.
The state of Utah begged the DOJ for support in helping investigate Reid for this, but Eric Holder (remember him?) blocked it, with no explanation. Old Man Harry protected once again by his party.
Many longtime liberals in Vegas opposed Reid getting the airport named after him, because he was so notoriously corrupt.
Regarding the sign, it looks very much like AI.
I wasn't a Harry Reid fan. I remember in 1998 I specifically supported John Ensign against him in the election although I wasn't a registered voter in Nevada.
Ensign was a pentecostal holy roller that espoused strict Christian family values. The holy rollers are the type that play with snakes and talk in tongues. But I didn't support him for his Christian values. I just thought he was a much more honest politician than Reid. That turned out to be wrong.
So on the morning of election day, Nov 3, 1998, I was boarding a Southwest flight from Vegas to Reno. Like me, John Ensign was in the first 33 to board. He was well ahead of me. When I got on there was a row of seats one one side that had articles of clothing laying in each seat to mark them as taken. Ensign was at the back of the plane talking with a stewardess.
I took the window seat right behind the row that had the seats marked with clothing. After most everyone boarded Ensign came to the front and sat down in the row with the clothing.
So Ensign had the whole row to himself on the flight up to Reno. It looked to me that since it was election day his nice guy act was over and he was back to being an asshole. I thought to myself what a creep. On that day Reid beat Ensign by just one tenth of one percent.
Ensign ran again in 2000 and won. But he wound up resigning in 2011 when he got caught screwing his best friend's wife. It wasn't the affair that did him in. It was his attempted cover up by bribing the husband who was also one of his staffers. These two guys families attended the same Church. Their kids attended the same Christian school. Ensign forgot all about his Christian values when his dick was involved.
