Adam Corolla has a place on Malibu Beach and did a tour. Again, he has experience as a construction worker and isn’t a spazz so I find his takes informative

He walks up to the famous concrete form-tie beach house that survived and is frankly the future of LA construction

He talks at the end about how most of the houses on the beach began life in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s when codes were non existent. Adam points out that they all have septic - no town services. They are beyond fucked getting new permitting. He estimates 3-5 million on sewer before you put up the first 2x4.

I wanted to totally miss his shit back in the day but I find him a decent follow now.

I was so proud of myself for talking the manufacturer into fixing the fridge for free, 8 months after the 5-year warranty expired.

A few days ago I started noticing some food in the freezer being thawed. I threw a thermometer in there, and noticed the temperature yo-yoing between 20 and 33. It was set to -2. Even at the lowest setting of -6, it doesn't get cooler than that.

This was 112 days after their visit to repair it -- which has a 90-day guarantee. I tried to call the manufacturer and they refused to help. I sent an email to their "Office of the President", which helped me last time.

Sadly I noticed something was "off" with the repair in February, and had them back out. Fridge was only getting down to 38 when you can set it as low as 35. That isn't the end of the world, but it meant the fix wasn't fully working. The Russian refused to do anything further, claiming that 38 degrees was "within manufacturers specs". What a load of bullshit.

I'm trying to use his refusal to fix it in February as justification to forgive the 24 days past the 90-day limit when I called to get them back here for this freezer thing. They'll probably tell me to eat shit.

In the meantime I'm making do with a tiny freezer in the garage.

So all that effort likely bought me just 4 months, and I might have to get a new one anyway, and the prices have also gone up.

Along with my washer and dryer the fridge I have is from the 80s. No issues. Modern appliances are meant to break so you keep buying them.

Prayers for Druff (2025 LA fires)

I don’t know if this helps much, but I always bought Whirlpool appliances and had great luck with them.

Very odd situation with my refrigerator.

Office of the President for refrigerator flat out ignored me for weeks.

They received my request quickly, then just didn't answer. Every time I called to check on it, I was told it was "being processed" and "we appreciate your patience".

Mind you, this was just a simple yes/no decision -- yes, they'd re-fix my fridge even though it was 114 days since last repair instead of 90, or they wouldn't. There wasn't anything complex to do or decide. They could have decided this in 5 minutes or less. There was nothing to "process".

I called and called, same bullshit over and over. Just told to keep waiting. Reminds me of the fucking Founders Card.

I then tried the X account. They seemed helpful at first, but came back with something like, "Okay, we've emailed that office, please be patient and give it time for a response." So that was useless.

I finally went back to the store where I bought the fridge and asked them to put me in contact with the rep for the manufacturer, as this is a last resort thing you can do in a situation like this. That was in the process of happening, and suddenly I heard from the company. They quickly "apologized" for not getting back to me (via text) and then set up a repair appointment.

My "new" compressor in January, supposed to last until 2035, went 3.5 months before croaking.

    Anyway it's working again.

    Modern appliances = joke

The shitty old early 2000s fridge in the garage still chugging along.

Because you have so many brownouts and the inevitable surge upon return I would recommend a refrigerator surge protector. They now sell devices specifically for refrigerators and air conditioners. Under voltage is as big a killer as over voltage. An old school Tripplite might not cover you both ways. I’m sure this is what’s frying your compressor.

You need to match the surge protector to the size of your fridge. Over/under 27cu. It’s $50 so why not

Hide the thing from the service guy but ask him what he thinks. How much will you consider tipping him?

Funny, I starting to look into that and I was seeing (from preliminary web searches) that a surge protector isn't necessary, and won't help.

So there really are ones for refrigerators? I really would consider this.

The first refrigerator failure I definitely blame on the power issue.

The one in April, it's hard to tell, because we did not have any blackouts, and no brownouts to my knowledge. Might have just been a shitty replacement part.

But yes, if such surge protectors are advisable, I will get one. LOL California and all that.

#BreakingNews California passed a bill allowing LA County to purchase fire destroyed property at cheap rates to convert them into low-income affordable housing.
    #losangeles
The California State Senate passed Senate Bill 549 which authorizes the creation of Resilient Rebuilding Authorities (RRA) in Los Angeles County.

The county will be able to purchase fire-destroyed lots (at minimal cost) using property taxes, then convert the lots into low-income and affordable housing.
    #california
The bill, introduced by State Senator Anthony Portantino (D-Burbank), is now headed to the Assembly for a hearing set for tomorrow.

If signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom, it would take effect immediately as an 'urgency statute.'

Meanwhile only 100 permits have been issued for California residents to rebuild after the Palisades fire destroyed 6,000-7,000 homes/structures - with some estimates putting that number at 12,000.

The plan targets lots that were destroyed in wildfires like the recent Palisades, Eaton, and Hughes fires in LA County.

At least 40% of the RRA's funding must be allocated to developing low-income housing on these sites - think section 8, homeless, illegal migrants etc.

The bill also prioritizes reconstructing rental stock, and multi-family units - AKA apartments.

The RRA can issue, receive, and administer funds specifically for LA wildfires, including property taxes.

Governor Newsom has already allocated $101 million in state taxpayer funds for multifamily low-income housing developments in wildfire affected areas, which could be used to build the low income housing if the bill passes.

The bill has drawn criticism for appearing to contradict Governor Newsom's previous commitments to wildfire victims.

In January Newsom issued an executive order prohibiting unsolicited, low-ball offers for fire-destroyed properties, assuring homeowners they would have "breathing room and protection" to rebuild without exploitation.

He emphasized streamlining rebuilding efforts, saying the focus was on "residential cleanup" and a "blueprint for rebuilding" to help owners recover their homes - but what is happening seems to be the opposite of what he promised.

Additionally, Newsom previously said he was concerned about policies that could hinder rebuilding in high-fire-risk areas, prioritizing homeowner recovery over government-driven conversions.... many questioning his change in action.

Critics say SB 549 gives government private property at low cost for public housing, contradicting what Newsom publicaly says, and prioritizes low-income development over private rebuilding.

After watching the show 90 Day Fiance and seeing Mark living in NH, I defiantly want to travel and explore that state.

This is a bigger deal than many realize, and a lot of Democrats have been floating excuses for the whole thing, making it look like a bullshit conspiracy theory.

It's not, and it's very real and bothersome.

Basically this TV special was pitched as a way for people to give aid to those affected by the fires, and it was NOT disclosed at any point that none of this aid would be directly given to victims of the January fires. Instead, the money (nearly $100m) was being given to a bunch of area nonprofits, with the agreement not to spend any on administrative expenses.

Not only did some of the money go to supposed administrative expenses (outright theft), but many of these nonprofits had nothing to do with fire victim relief. It looks like some California libs just picked a bunch of nonprofits they liked, found a way to very loosely connect them to fire relief, and handed out the money to them.

A small amount of the donated money actually made it over to assist victims. Most of it is unaccounted for, and many of these nonprofits have a left political bent, which of course wasn't what was being pitched during the TV special.

This entire situation generally violates the Druff's Rule of Scammy Businesses: If the average person spending their money at the business believes they are getting something different than they actually are, it's a scam.

If the intent the entire way was to give the money to nonprofits, they should have stated this on TV, and then given a website where people could examine the nonprofits, prior to donating. Taking the money for "fire aid" and then distributing it in this bizarre fashion is basically a scam, and only one step above outright theft.

Spencer Pratt is a guy who has been blowing up on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@spencerpratt...O6N4csSRZ&_r=1 this week, i guess he is some sort of reality tv star or something like that, his house was destroyed in the Palisades fire, he has been digging deep into this fire aid money and the scam of fire victims receiving any money , he has really stirred up a hornets nest and has even gotten the attention of Gov. Newsom...calling Spencer an amateur lying independent journalist.... Spencer has uncovered that Newsom's wife leads an NGO called Cal Supporters, i believe Spencer said that Gavin was even on the board of the organization but he was later scrubbed from the website because of Spencer's investigation(s) they received federal money and not a penny was given to fire victims, he is also covering that Fire Aid Concert that raised $100 million and again no fire victims have received any money... Spencer has caught these government agencies, NGO's and other organizations not giving one penny to fire victims , so much so that it has really pissed off Newsom and crew, Spencer is really doing an outstanding job bringing this all to light, Spencer also has a Twitter account https://x.com/spencerpratt?s=21&t=mb...EENLDqSWyJ3hng and looks like he is reposting his tiktok videos to twitter, just go to the videos tab once on his twitter profile...

i am not trying to be funny here and i am serious that @Druff should reach out to Spencer via twitter https://x.com/spencerpratt?s=21&t=mb...EENLDqSWyJ3hng and see if Spencer would talk to him on radio about what all he has done and is doing about this scam operation(s) that these various agencies are doing/ not doing... here a couple of his videos from twitter, since they are easier to post than the tiktok ones

    https://twitter.com/spencerpratt/status/1949242923951988894

a fire broke out in Topanga state park near Palisades about 6 days prior to the wind event, the fire rekindled about 2 days before the wind event and warnings were ignored and Newsom also lied about sending out "assets" pre the wind event
