Exclamation Palm Springs, CA- Reproductive center: 'Intentional act of terrorism' explosion/bombing

A bomb explosion outside a California fertility clinic that killed one person and injured four others was an "intentional act of terrorism", FBI officials have said.

The blast happened just before 11:00 local time (19:00 BST) less than a mile from downtown Palm Springs, near several businesses including the American Reproductive Centers (ARC). The clinic said no-one from the facility was harmed.

The FBI later said it had "a person of interest" in its investigation, but officers were "not actively searching" for the suspect.

Rhino Williams, who was at his restaurant nearby, told the BBC he heard the blast, initially thinking a plane or helicopter had crashed.

Some people on the right are believing this was an Antifa type who hates families or procreation, but my guess is the opposite.

It's easy to guess why a right winger would bomb an abortion clinic (that's been happening for decades), but why a fertility treatment center which CREATES life, instead of destroying it?

To understand that, you need to understand how fertility treatments work.

Most fertility procedures involve destroying a number of embryos in order to create 1-2 babies. In some cases, the treatment fails and all of the embryos eventually are destroyed.

    The procedure goes as follows:

    1) Woman injects a bunch of stuff into her body for several weeks in order to bring down a ton of eggs.

    2) Woman goes through a surgical procedure with general anesthesia in order to harvest the eggs, usually around 20.

    3) While this is going on, the dude goes into the bathroom jerks off into a cup. They actually offer him dirty magazines if needed.

    4) An attempt is made to create embryos out of each egg -- again, something like 20.

    5) The embryos are examined. The likely non-viable ones (embryos with genetic abnormalities or other major issues) are recommended to be destroyed, as they have a low chance of making it through a pregnancy, and even if successful, would result in a horrible quality of life for the child.

    6) The best embryo is then implanted. If the woman is over 35, typically two are implanted, as it is believed that one will sometimes not take. If the woman is between 30-35, sometimes they implant 1, sometimes 2. If no quality embryos exist (common with women over 40), nothing is implanted.

    7) If both embryos take, you end up with fraternal twins. If one does, you end up with a single birth. When you see fraternal twins these days, there's a high chance they were IVF babies.

    8) The rest of the viable embryos are either frozen for the future, or destroyed.

If a donor egg is used (typically mandatory if the mother is 44 or older, or if the egg quality is poor before age 44), then steps 1-2 are skipped, but of course the baby has no genetic relation to the mom. If a sperm donor is used, step #3 is skipped. If a surrogate is used, steps 6-7 are done on the surrogate.

So what's my point with all this?

Note that in the above procedures, lots of embryos are created and then destroyed, which some believe is equivalent to abortion.

In some ways, it is. You are destroying a fertilized egg, which is the very first stages of human life. In some ways, it isn't, as no real development has occurred, and this is being done in service of bringing an actual human life to earth, whereas that life would not exist otherwise. So unlike abortion (which is choosing no life versus life), IVF is choosing life versus no life. It is impractical to only harvest the eggs one would expect to use, because there tend to be a lot of poor quality embryos when done this way, and the woman would have gone through all of this for nothing. Additionally, note that couples only seek IVF when they have difficulty conceiving, which often is due to poor or declining egg quality.

When sperm quality is poor, they first try a procedrue called IUI. Tim Walz had this used to have his kids conceived. He lied (shocker, huh?) and claimed his kids were a result of IVF. There is no controversy about IUI, because that simply is a form of inserting the sperm directly into the uterus, and then a natural preganacy occurs from there. Not only aren't there any embryos/babies destroyed, but sperm are not human life, and in fact hundreds of millions of sperm die even when a non-assisted, sexually-created pregnancy occurs.

But getting back to the bombing....

It is more likely that the culprit is some Christian nutcase who feels that the destruction of embryos during IVF is murder, and thus was seeking to kill those performing it.

No. He has a manifesto online. I’ll summarize. While Druffs guess was a good one if someone was politically motivated, this kid was a straight nihilist who believed that everyone born was here without their consent and he hated life and human existence. Compared the act of birth to rape. Considered anti-suicide groups evil, as they stopped people from ending the misery and lead to mass shootings. Wanted a true right to die that didn’t require being ill. A graceful exit for those who didn’t wish to endure messy or painful exits.

Viewed these IVF clinics as people creating existence that he hated. Considered himself as anti-life and very strong on parents being these selfish creatures who bring kids into this world without their consent.

Also really hated YouTube censors. He loved the internet and considered it important to find others that believe like he does, but their censorship of his pro death views is why he has to do this to make a statement that this is important.

Feels like humans are just prisoners to DNA telling them to eat or drink water or pretty much do anything that perpetuates survival and that all of that was retarded.

So just your run of the mill garden variety anti-IVF nihilist. Who doesn’t know a dozen of those?

Oh and the whole manifesto is an audio. Manifesto audiobooks are a growth market opportunity. Sounds relatively normal during it. I mean the words are insane but he delivers them with a seemingly calm voice and he finds all this logical.

Wouldn't have guessed it was an anti-life nutcase who felt nobody should be alive.

    Bizarre.

I thought more likely a fanatical Christian who hated IVF's destruction of embryos, but also a possibility of a left wing type who felt that we were bringing extra babies who otherwise wouldn't be here, and are thereby destroying the environment.

On that note, I had some exposure to a group of people who are basically anti-birth left wingers, but not in the same vein of this guy. Their argument wasn't consent to be born. Instead, they claimed that the world is a horrible place, bringing a child into it is cruel, and it also damages the environment. Unlike this weirdo who seemed not to fit into society, these people mostly live otherwise normal lives among us, and hold normal jobs. Even their Facebook pages otherwise look normal.

I had a female friend (not anyone I've ever dated) who was around 40 at the time, and had always felt she didn't want kids. When she dated a guy who was part of these anti-birth groups, she easily fell into it, and for awhile became one of them. She briefly tried to discuss it with me, and I told her that she was being ridiculous, so she didn't bring it up to me again.

This group actively hassles people not to have kids, roots for miscarriages when people announce being pregnant, and cheers abortion. Just really shitty stuff. It's one thing to make a decision for yourself not to have kids (even if it's for a dumb reason), but it's another to hassle other people who choose to procreate. They would share screen shots of people on their Facebook who announced pregnancies, privately root for miscarriages, and sometimes others from the group (ones unknown to the person pregnant) would go on their page and wish them a miscarriage.

One of the biggest flaws in the thinking of this movement involves their own lives. If being alive is so terrible and miserable, and if you also believe your presence is damaging the environment, why not kill yourself? However, none of these people advocate suicide. Totaly hypocrites. They root for miscarriages because life is suppsoedly so terrible and harmful, yet they selfishly want their own lives intact. I briefly joined their group to troll them and asked this question. Their copout answer was, "We're already here, so it's different. Might as well live it out. But that shouldn't stop us from pressuring others not to bring in other life which doesn't yet exist!" I was quickly thrown out of the group.

Anyway, not too long after being part of this group, my friend got married and was shocked to find herself pregnant. She was like 41 years old and didn't expect it at all. At first they decided to abort it, but then reconsidered, and then decided to keep it if the baby seemed healthy from the amnio test. Indeed, the baby was healthy, and she kept it. When her ex-boyfriend found out from her announcement on Facebook, he flipped out, called her a traitor, and openly responded that he hoped she'd miscarry. The baby was born healthy and doing fine today. She told me that her ex and his group were a bunch of weirdos, and she was ashamed for ever having been part of that group.

Very strange people out there. So many of them seem normal on the surface, yet you never know what they're really doing or saying behind the scenes on the internet.

The founder of a Palm Springs fertility clinic that was targeted during a car bombing attack said he forgives the suspect and even offered to pay for his funeral services.

Amer Abdallah, who's a cousin of Dr. Maher Abdallah, the founder of the clinic, said they've made contact with the suspect's family and have offered to pay for his services.

"I was livid when this happened," he said. "After the shock wore down, I said, 'How could this happen? Who did it? How did it happen?' I said, 'Something has to be done,' and [Dr. Maher Abdallah] said, 'Listen, you need to calm down. Everything happens by the grace of God. Nothing is a mistake. This young man was misguided. I don't blame him. I forgive him.' He asked me to reach out to his family and to pay for his funeral services, and I told him, 'You are such a better man than I am.'"
