its also interesting that the rules for thai nationals to enter the casinos are extremely strict; basically if youre thai and if you dont have the equiv of 1.5m USD in your account for 6 months, you cant step foot in the joint. as of 2021 there were about 125,000 thais who qualified for entrance. total.

anyway probably a good time to snatch up some real estate in BKK.
That’s really interesting. I think the gambling busts there are more just shakedown busts. Obviously a ton of online players live there and from the random that got into issues, sounds like a 1k baht fine made it go away, unlike drugs which is serious business. But unless the live games are super juicy, they’ll now start cracking down on online players as they’ll view them as competition and those kids will have to move if they don’t want to transition to live

yeah i always wondered about that, if the people in the papers getting perp walked either couldnt afford the 'tea money' or got mouthy and fucked it all up for themselves.

hard to say what happens next with online there but since about an hour after black friday, thailand has been one of the top 3 destinations for poker pros to operate from it seems.. thats a big golden goose potentially. id not be surprised to see things swing in the opposite direction actually, with savvy forward thinkers loopholing the current regs to start new online poker rooms there. going to be interesting either way.
