My guess is this is posturing to convey a better position for negotiations. It would take NATO planes flown by NATO pilots to launch long range himars or storm shadows. It's not something Ukraine can do on its own.

Biden has the sole authority to launch nuclear weapons, and in many cases, he’d only have minutes to make that call. That alone is fucking terrifying. One mistake is all it would take for everything to go sideways. Nuclear weapons work as a deterrent until they don’t, and when that happens, it’s game over. The more countries that get nukes and the more advanced technology becomes, the greater the chance of something going horribly wrong. On top of that, nobody seems to talk about how all this is playing out in the Kursk region a place that carries deep emotional weight for Russians from WW2. It’s bad enough that Ukrainians are there at all, and now you’ve got missiles hitting a region that’s already so historically loaded.
The best hope for all this is that Trump has already been on the phone with Zelensky and told him he would serve his head on a platter if he launches any of them. Or Trump offers him and his family a golden parachute not to escalate. Ukraine was one of the most corrupt Nations in the world before this war, also something no one talks about.
Right, and now you’ve got a situation where a significant number of Americans are actually hoping the Russians shoot these down with minimal damage just to avoid escalation. The fact that Biden is making this move now is completely insane, as it won’t change the course of the war. Ukraine cannot win; it’s already over. All this does is guarantee that more Ukrainians and Russians will die before Trump takes office. And that is best case scenario.
For some reason, Americans treat this like it’s a video game cheering this development. But it only takes one nuclear missile whether fired intentionally or by mistake for everything to come crashing down. There is no upside and iit is not just reckless it is pathological. What makes it even more disturbing, is the American people just voted , and one of the reasons Trump won is because Americans want nothing to do with this war anymore. And Biden not only ignores this he does the worst thing possible in this situation.
