I'm willing to give Hegseth a shot... an "outside the box" pick that could turn out well.

I'm a hard "NO" on Gaetz though, but I don't see how he gets confirmed anyway. Too many in his own party hate him.

    Terrible choice.

Gaetz resigns from Congress to avoid the ethics probe?

    Who is making these picks?

I don’t get any of it

Trump floats Gaetz as AG to give him cover to resign.

The AG spot is not something you ought to play games with. (Edit: after his lawfare experience Trump prolly gives no fucks about respecting the AG)

Why is the WH involving themselves with Gaetz?

Gonna be juicy but honestly nobody cares about ethics any more. Still odd

    That's exactly how I'd think.

Of course bringing a "Fox & Friends" host into an important cabinet position makes for easy fodder for the opposition, but in reality Hegseth has had two decades of military experience, and was well respected in that realm.

I don't care about some of the ill-advised or controversial things he's said as a Fox host. That's inconsequential, and none of it was that bad. I know as well as anyone that if you talk for a long time over a period of years, you're bound to say something stupid every so often.

I see negative comparisons compared to Lloyd Austin, but that's stupid. Austin attained a higher rank than Hegseth, but that doesn't necessarily translate to being a better Secretary of Defense. Both men have extensive military experience. Austin, however, is much older, and in fact tried to hide his prostate cancer from Biden in early 2024. Hegseth is only 44, which is the right direction to be going regarding these demanding jobs. In general, I want to see us get away from old people being given important positions in government, and yes, that includes Trump.

Hegseth is one of those guys who could effectively shake things up, in a good way. Had Trump appointed some random friend of his to the position -- someone with zero military experience -- that would be a different story.

Some of these other picks, though (especially Gaetz) don't make a lot of sense, beyond "I want people I know I'll get along with".

That's what a lot of people are saying.

Gaetz thinks the hammer is about to fall on him regarding his association with Greenberg (and possible sex with Greenberg's underage prostitutes, whether knowingly or unknowingly), and asked Trump for this favor. Perhaps Trump did it for him because Gaetz has been very loyal, and Trump values loyalty over everything else.

But yeah, Gaetz fails confirmation, and then can point to "But I thought I was gonna be AG" as the reason he resigned.

Hegseth is a good choice, he has 20 years in the military, decorated, degree from Princeton and Harvard, accomplished author, all by age of 44. He'll have a steep learning curve but by all accounts vets think he is a great guy and that is half the battle. He will definitely clean up this woke crap at the Pentagon.

Gaetz I don't think has a prayer of getting confirmed especially if the ethics report leaks. Even without the report, I think he will fail to be confirmed. You only need 4 defections and most Republicans despise him. If somehow he just get by, the Dems created this situation with the relentless lawfare against Trump.

Why I like Gaetz- he is super sharp and snappy on grilling people. He has these smart and whip like come backs when he grills the enemy-

Also Attorney General Merrick Garland is a total POS.

Heard some scuttlebutt on the radio today. Apparently Trump interviewed several people for AG and was pissed. Apparently the candidates kept harping on the Constitution and he commented they thought they were interviewing for the Supreme Court. So on the way to meet Biden his Chief of Staff Susie mentioned Matt Gaetz again. She apparently has known Matt and his wealthy family for many years in Florida.

If you believe what you hear, Matt will have really no power, he would be a figurehead whose sole role is to go on TV and podcasts and promote Trumps vision of reworking the DOJ. They will surround him with Deputies loyal to Trump at the DOJ for the day to day stuff, and the strategy for the department will come from Trump's Legal Counsel. Sole goal is to institutionalize DOJ under the Executive Branch. In other words Trump will call the shots. Matt will have no real power, it's Trump Legal counsel setting the strategy.

Whether the Senators go along with that who knows, but it's not like Matt is going to run anything day to day. He probably will try to root out DEI people at the DOJ, that is about it. If this is how it works out ultimately, the Dems can come to the conclusion their whole lawfare strategy against Trump was a total failure. If they had just left him alone he probably would not have run.

I was cautiously optimistic about his second term. Thought he might go more Libertarian types and have somewhat effective presidency. Instead he’s went full loons with Gaetz and RFK in really important gigs and other lightweights in serious jobs. I’ve already went from cautiously optimistic to this is going to be a bigger fail than I ever imagined.

This would be the dumbest condo or HOA board ever assembled. I can’t believe these people have these jobs. Total morons.

Serious though, name the 10 best cabinet secretaries of all time? I can't, they really just set the agenda in the agency and the agenda is going to come from the White House. People blame the Homeland Security Secretary for the open border but the policy came from the progressive lunatics in the party the last 4 years. Regarding RFK, he really can't affect existing vaccines, that would need Congress. He can affect food quality, which isn't a bad thing. People should not be eating processed cupcakes that can survive 5 years in a sealed wrapper anyway.

I mean I think by any objective measure, Gaetz and RFK Jr are just horrible human beings. RFK Jr spent years 15-30 as the kid who vandalized your business and addicted to heroin for 15 years. He then started failing the bar exam for a few years and became essentially an environmentalist for 20 years. Then spent the last 20 years spreading misinformation that got kids killed and when proven wrong, kept doubling down. I am not saying I disagree with his premise food is unhealthy and pesticides are bad. If he kept it at that he would be harmless, but even that freak tranny was an actual doctor. This guy is 70 and every aspect of his personal life from 15-70 is riddled with him doing the people closest to him horribly wrong.

I mean as Chris Rock said, men are only as faithful as their options, but you can be discreet. During every marriage, this guy has multiple affairs and then shows the nude photos of the conquests to all his buddies and anyone in his social circle to the point his wives are so embarrassed that one even offed herself. This has came up in every divorce proceeding and his present marriage. Thats a strange insecurity to still have at 70. It's just a really strange thing to do.

He just strikes me as a sociopath who does wrong by everyone in his world and then hides behind all these causes as covers to pretend he's not a sociopath. We all know people who are just tremendous scumbags like this. If a girl is overly into shit like animals or some pet charities, I know I am dealing with a psycho 95% of the time and run. I know she's going to end up as someone who doesn't give a fuck about actual humans and probably has two kids who are "staying with their father" while they volunteer 6 hours a week at some pet shelter and consider themselves a great person while you're wondering how the fuck they don't have their own kids and why there are 20 pictures of rottweilers for every pic of their kid on their social media? I feel I have met that chick twenty times and they are all the same nutjob.

I mean being an environmentalist fighting for the coast line and marching with Indians to fight the white man and whatever other cause and then joining up with the kill the EPA and deregulate party is like being that pet chick and then getting into dog fighting and banging Michael Vick. If he was a chick we would call him a hot mess.

Gaetz was born too late. He was born to be a Pinto salesmen back when they blew up with a little fender bender rear end collision. I am not sure we know what kind of freak he exactly is. We all know the sex shit with underage girls, but the weird, arranged marriage to some donor daughter who lives in CA while he lives in Florida, 18-year-old Cuban boys living with him that he all of a sudden calls his son? I mean who was raising the kid when you're partying all the time and how old is his sister you supposedly dated? The multiple plastic surgeries like some Vegas bottle girl/real estate chick. Just a really weird freak and he might legit be way worse than we even know.

Even Tulsi, I don't hate her, but she isn't overly bright. Was the darling of RT for years. Was born into some strange cult. I don't mind her being around, but head of the nation's biggest secrets, I don't love that idea.

These are just poor choices to have around and in the ear of any president. They are bad people to have at the top of agencies where hundreds or thousands of people have to report to them. It's insulting to actual professionals.
