I'm willing to give Hegseth a shot... an "outside the box" pick that could turn out well.
I'm a hard "NO" on Gaetz though, but I don't see how he gets confirmed anyway. Too many in his own party hate him.
Terrible choice.

Gaetz resigns from Congress to avoid the ethics probe?
Who is making these picks?
I don’t get any of it
Trump floats Gaetz as AG to give him cover to resign.
The AG spot is not something you ought to play games with. (Edit: after his lawfare experience Trump prolly gives no fucks about respecting the AG)
Why is the WH involving themselves with Gaetz?
Gonna be juicy but honestly nobody cares about ethics any more. Still odd
That's exactly how I'd think.
Of course bringing a "Fox & Friends" host into an important cabinet position makes for easy fodder for the opposition, but in reality Hegseth has had two decades of military experience, and was well respected in that realm.
I don't care about some of the ill-advised or controversial things he's said as a Fox host. That's inconsequential, and none of it was that bad. I know as well as anyone that if you talk for a long time over a period of years, you're bound to say something stupid every so often.
I see negative comparisons compared to Lloyd Austin, but that's stupid. Austin attained a higher rank than Hegseth, but that doesn't necessarily translate to being a better Secretary of Defense. Both men have extensive military experience. Austin, however, is much older, and in fact tried to hide his prostate cancer from Biden in early 2024. Hegseth is only 44, which is the right direction to be going regarding these demanding jobs. In general, I want to see us get away from old people being given important positions in government, and yes, that includes Trump.
Hegseth is one of those guys who could effectively shake things up, in a good way. Had Trump appointed some random friend of his to the position -- someone with zero military experience -- that would be a different story.
Some of these other picks, though (especially Gaetz) don't make a lot of sense, beyond "I want people I know I'll get along with".
That's what a lot of people are saying.
Gaetz thinks the hammer is about to fall on him regarding his association with Greenberg (and possible sex with Greenberg's underage prostitutes, whether knowingly or unknowingly), and asked Trump for this favor. Perhaps Trump did it for him because Gaetz has been very loyal, and Trump values loyalty over everything else.
But yeah, Gaetz fails confirmation, and then can point to "But I thought I was gonna be AG" as the reason he resigned.
Hegseth is a good choice, he has 20 years in the military, decorated, degree from Princeton and Harvard, accomplished author, all by age of 44. He'll have a steep learning curve but by all accounts vets think he is a great guy and that is half the battle. He will definitely clean up this woke crap at the Pentagon.
Gaetz I don't think has a prayer of getting confirmed especially if the ethics report leaks. Even without the report, I think he will fail to be confirmed. You only need 4 defections and most Republicans despise him. If somehow he just get by, the Dems created this situation with the relentless lawfare against Trump.
Why I like Gaetz- he is super sharp and snappy on grilling people. He has these smart and whip like come backs when he grills the enemy-

Also Attorney General Merrick Garland is a total POS.

Heard some scuttlebutt on the radio today. Apparently Trump interviewed several people for AG and was pissed. Apparently the candidates kept harping on the Constitution and he commented they thought they were interviewing for the Supreme Court. So on the way to meet Biden his Chief of Staff Susie mentioned Matt Gaetz again. She apparently has known Matt and his wealthy family for many years in Florida.
If you believe what you hear, Matt will have really no power, he would be a figurehead whose sole role is to go on TV and podcasts and promote Trumps vision of reworking the DOJ. They will surround him with Deputies loyal to Trump at the DOJ for the day to day stuff, and the strategy for the department will come from Trump's Legal Counsel. Sole goal is to institutionalize DOJ under the Executive Branch. In other words Trump will call the shots. Matt will have no real power, it's Trump Legal counsel setting the strategy.
Whether the Senators go along with that who knows, but it's not like Matt is going to run anything day to day. He probably will try to root out DEI people at the DOJ, that is about it. If this is how it works out ultimately, the Dems can come to the conclusion their whole lawfare strategy against Trump was a total failure. If they had just left him alone he probably would not have run.

I was cautiously optimistic about his second term. Thought he might go more Libertarian types and have somewhat effective presidency. Instead he’s went full loons with Gaetz and RFK in really important gigs and other lightweights in serious jobs. I’ve already went from cautiously optimistic to this is going to be a bigger fail than I ever imagined.
This would be the dumbest condo or HOA board ever assembled. I can’t believe these people have these jobs. Total morons.
