    Volkswagen vehicles.

Been wanting to post this for awhile.

I’ve never owned a VW vehicle, but held an interest in them. I have respect for the German engineering, but never saw it as long reliable as the Hondas and Toyotas I’ve owned in past. I also learned how to drive a manual transmission (stick) in a late 60s VW bug (air cooled transmission)

And yes, VW screwed up with their emissions software scandal, not good. But they are past that now.

And remember when the new Beetles came out about 10 years ago, they were rated highly as super safe, impressive.

In closing, I like style and overall engineering, but will still don’t anticipate ever buying a WV.

    Your take?

    Random Beetle pic for reference-

Druff- I don’t think you ever owned a VW, but what is your opinion, please?

Good point, didn’t think of this. I asked because I always liked to hear Druff’s opinion on things.

    Vw engines are crap.

When they relaunched the beetle a friend bought one, hit a pothole and the frame cracked.

    Shit cars all of them.

the old bugs (pre '62) had no gas gauge. You had to pick up the front seat and there was a bubble guage under it. A friend got one used and every couple of days we would secretly put a little gas in the tank so when he checked the guage it appeared unchanged. He thought he was getting 150mpg!
I've had several bugs, vans and microbusses over the years and I loved them although they did have problems. The vans were notorious for having starter problems so I frequently had to park on a slope or at least level ground so I could push start it.
Had some fun times. Drove from Rhode Island to California picking up hitch-hikers back in the days when you could do that.

I own a Atlas. Im not a “car guy”. Its got four wheels and it rolls, but its also spacey and handles well. It was also ~7K cheaper than most other SUV other than Hyundai.

Couldn't tell you about the rest of the products but I have zero regrets having bought the Atlas.

I need to add something to my original post- I am a fan of Mercedes Bendz cars as well. I like the older 2000-2012 sedan models, don’t know why, I just do.

Would maybe own one some day, but probably not.

This is from the period where Steve Ballmer tried to make the little creep Gates human

Oracle, Microsoft & Sun Microsystems all riffed the Volkswagen Rabbit Da Da Da ad. I can’t think of an ad campaign thet took on a life across multiple companies like this.

Was funny in a grainy early nerdy internet way.

I have no idea how the Germans are manufacturing anything given their Biden energy crisis.

Cheap energy was half of the reason for the German economic miracle. That’s not happening any more.

    Update-

Volkswagen is experiencing a significant financial decline, with earnings after tax plunging 63.7% in the third quarter and sales dropping 8.3% during the same period. CEO Oliver Blume has pointed to “decades-long structural problems at VW” as a primary factor in the company's ongoing struggles.
