I've never seen this before. The boy was 16, which is legal in many states (though usually not if the adult is a teacher).
The dad should not have been arrested here.
I don't have a problem with her sentence. I wouldn't call 4 years a "sweetheart" sentence, given that the boy was 16, it was fully consensual, and there obviously was no physical fear or coercion.
My biggest problem with what she did involves her being a teacher. Indeed, that deserves some prison time. Were she just a random adult in her 20s, I wouldn't want this prosecuted.

I first had sex at 17, which was exactly average for males in the late 1980s. I believe you also had sex before age 18.
While the girl I had sex with was also around my age, thus being legal (then and now), it would have been stupid to have been a crime if I were 18 and she were 17.
The age of consent laws should go like this:
- 18+ can have sex with anyone
- 14-17 can have sex with those up to 4 years older than them
- 12-13 can have sex with those up to 1 year older than them (obviously not what you want as a parent, but 13-14 year olds should not be prosecuted for doing this)
- Teachers can never have sex with students at the school, even if the students are over 18 (doesn't apply to college, though)
- Lesser penalties for those under 26 who have sex with those 16-17, as long as they're not teachers, but still needs to be some penalty
- Extremely stiff penalties who any adults who touch kids under 14
BTW, there are some states with laws very similar to the above.

I went to school with a guy, 7th grade. He was a big guy, just larger then everyone else at that age, nice looking for that age. True story, rumors were all over the place a couple years later his mother was sleeping around with teens for drugs. He eventually just disappeared from school like all of a sudden. Funny thing was I stayed at his house in the 9th grade and we were playing quarters over a bottle of Jim Beam, the sound woke her up and I was terrified because we were like 14 drinking. She simply came in and said keep the noise down, with the bottle right in front of us. I was like WTF? Then, like two minutes later his father came in who was sleeping in the other room, they were divorced and he yelled is that my Beam. He grabbed it and walked out. The next morning I hopped on my bike and the father was outside doing something with his car and said I looked like Spock from Star Trek. He laughed, he was in his 40s, I was like maybe 14, just never went back there for sure.

That’s much worse than top one. If they don’t really start dropping some serious sentences on these broads it will continue. The top one, 26 and unmarried, there isn’t any real victim there. I usually feel worst for the husband who married these train wrecks when they are young. Being the spouse of the chick who bangs high school kids is more traumatizing than being the high school kid when it’s a young teacher.
