It's now being reported that Kimmel was given the opportunity to save his show by making a public apology for the joke but refused. So Iger pulled the plug. Kimmel cost his employee's their jobs because of his pompous arrogance. Even Johnny Carson had to make public apologies for insensitive jokes. And The View probably holds the record for most public apologies by a TV show.

I remember one incident about 40 years ago on the Johnny Carson show. Jerry Lewis was the guest host. In the monologue he said he fulfilled a lifelong dream when flying from coast to cost by taking a dump over Mississippi. Mississippians hit the ceiling over that one. A bunch of pissed off rednecks that said they would ban the show in Mississippi. Lewis faced being banned from the network if he didn't apologize so apologized the next night.
