I remember a California legislator that played poker in the big card barns of southern California. Adelson told him that if he supported online poker in California he (Adelson) would give 1 Million dollars to his opponent in the next election.

Adelson was long an opponent of online poker, but this seemed to be more for some kind of odd philosophical reason, rather than profit motives, as he stood to profit from the online poker industry.
He owned Venetian and Palazzo, but made even more by investing into the Macau casino industry.
He also was very pro-Israel, to the point of donating large sums of money to political candidates who supported the country (including Trump), of both political parties.
